Eid-el-Fitr: Kano govt freed 317 prison inmates with N12million

 Kano State Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has secured the freedom of 317 immates across Prison formations in the state.

This, according to a statement issued and signed by the prison’s Command Public Relation Office (CPRO) DSP Musbahu Lawan K/Nassarawa, is in connection with the power conferred on him by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

It added that the release is in line with series of activities lined up to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

Also, it stated that the 317 inmates comprises of young offenders, those who were of old age, sick and those above 65 years stressing that most of the freed inmates were less privileged.

According to the statement, Governor Ganduje had revealed that nearly N12 million was spent for the exercise.

It further revealed that, the Controller of Prisons, Kano, Magaji A.Abdullahi, commended the Kano State government for the laudable humanitarian gesture.

The prison boss thanked the Governor for the relentless concern and support to the incarcerated members in custody and urged well-meaning community members to emulate the gesture done to the immates by Kano State Government.
