Bauchi State governor, Mohammed Abubakar, has called on Muslims to imbibe good moral values of piety and brotherhood.
This was contained in his Eid-el-Kabir message to people of the state as they celebrate with their counterparts in other parts of the world.
He said that Islam is a religion which preaches and promote peace and tolerance and therefore called on Nigerians to embrace brotherhood and love to ensure harmonious co-existence.
Governor Abubakar called on all Muslims to pray for continued peace and urged them to use the Eid-el-Kabir to re-dedicate themselves to the worship of Allah and extend hands of fellowship to the less privileged in the society.
"I urge all other Muslim leaders in Bauchi State and the country at large to embrace the principles of Eid, which include sacrifice, almsgiving, brotherhood and equality. As we celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir, let us also rededicate and commit ourselves to the Holy Prophet’s injunctions of piety, honesty, charity and generosity to the less privileged, impartial leadership and true justice for all," he said.
The governor also calls on people to reflect and assess activities of the previous year and make necessary amends in their spiritual undertakings.
"The significance of the season should be beyond the festivities, rather, it should be a moment to reflect on why God has united everyone with a common humanity as these should constitute what binds the people" he added.
He affirmed the commitment of his administration to protect the lives and properties of citizens in the state, and assured that the government will continue to deliver the dividends to the people.
He wished all Muslims happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration and expressed appreciation for the support being given to his administration.
He also prayed for the sustenance of peaceful co-existence being enjoyed inspite of diverse ethnic and religious affiliations.
