Eid-el-Kabir: FG approves 50% train fare discount

The Federal Government has approved a 50 percent reduction in fares on all passenger train services operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The announcement was made by the Federal Ministry of Transportation in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Funsho Adebiyi.

According to the ministry, the fare discount takes effect from Tuesday, May 26, 2026 and will remain in place until Monday, June 1, 2026.

The ministry stated that ticket prices on all NRC routes nationwide have been reduced by half of the existing approved fares to ease transportation costs for Nigerians travelling during the festive period.

It added that passengers who purchased tickets before the announcement at the old rates would receive a 50 per cent rebate, which can be reused for train journeys on or before June 1, 2026.

The government also clarified that train schedules and timetables would remain unchanged throughout the period.

The Federal Ministry of Transportation expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their continued support and wished Muslim faithful and all passengers a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Daily Trust reports that the NRC operates passenger train service in Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Kaduna and Warri Itakpe as well as narrow gauge service within Lagos and Ogun State.
