A charitable organisation, the Turkiye Diyanet Foundation, has distributed 8,000 cows to vulnerable families across Nigeria as part of the ongoing Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The distribution, carried out in partnership with the Fountain Humanitarian Foundation, commenced on Wednesday at designated centres in Abuja and several states, including Bauchi, Kano, Jigawa, Kwara and Oyo.

The Chairman of the Fountain Humanitarian Foundation in Nigeria, Muhammad Zun-Nurain, said the programme, sponsored by Turkish citizens living in Türkiye, the United Kingdom, Germany and other countries, is expected to end on Friday.

He explained that charity organisations, orphanage homes and schools registered with the foundation would visit the centres within the scheduled period to collect meat packaged in seven-kilogram portions for distribution to vulnerable beneficiaries.

According to him, about 2,000 cows are expected to be slaughtered at the Abuja centre alone, with the meat to be distributed to communities within the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring states such as Nasarawa, Niger and Kaduna.

Zun-Nurain added that the exercise is being conducted in collaboration with butchers’ associations and security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, the Police and vigilante groups, to ensure hitch-free operations at the various centres.
