Eid-el-Kabir: Ortom urges Nigerians on patriotism

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has urged Nigerians to place the interest of the nation above any factor capable of causing disunity and retrogression.

Ortom made the observation yesterday in his message to the residents of the state as Muslims across the world celebrates the Eid-el-Kabir festival.

The governor in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Terver Akase, noted that Benue has faced a number of obstacles in the areas of security and economy, and what the state needs at this time is renewed commitment among its people to overcome the challenges.

He therefore called on all political leaders and party supporters in the state to rise above divisive, unedifying and selfish interests as the political season is now underway, stressing the need for every Benue citizens to commit themselves to the sustenance of democracy as well as economic and political stability which are essential for good governance and growth.

Ortom emphasised that the safety of lives and property in all parts of the state is the priority of his administration as he urged the people to support security agents with useful and timely information to enable them apprehend criminal elements and guarantee peace.

The governor further admonished Muslims in particular to commit themselves to the Holy Prophet’s injunctions of piety, honesty and charity to the less privileged as he wishes the people of the state a joyful Eid-el-Kabir.
