The 3rd edition of the Annual Late Sir Peter Akinhonmi Eigbedion (KSM) Football Competition has ended in Ekpoma, Edo State, drawing students, alumni, and community members in a weeklong celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and legacy.
The tournament, which commenced on March 23, 2026, and concluded on March 31, was organised by the University Secondary School Old Students Association (USSEOSA) and solely sponsored by an alumnus, Dr. Andrew Oseghale Eigbedion.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Prof. Eunice Omonzejie, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Osagie Ekhator, commended the organisers for sustaining the initiative.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including the Chief Medical Director of Ofure Medical Centre, Dr. Festus Aisabokhale; Consultant Specialist at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Dr. Peter Akhideno; and representatives of the Onogie of Irrua, His Royal Highness Alhaji W.O. Momodu II.
Also in attendance were alumni leaders, student representatives, and members of the wider community, reflecting what participants described as the competition’s growing cultural and social significance.
The Chief Host and Principal of Ambrose Alli University Secondary School, Mrs. Fidelia Ndudi Ajuwa, said the tournament was designed to promote youth development and unity through sports.
“The competition has continued to grow in participation and organisation, and it remains a platform to inspire excellence, discipline, and teamwork among students,” she said.
Sponsor of the competition, Dr. Andrew Oseghale Eigbedion, said his continued support was aimed at preserving the legacy of his late father.
“This initiative is not just about football; it is about sustaining a legacy that promotes unity, resilience, and community development,” he said.
Matches were played at the Ambrose Alli University Secondary School football field, with the final producing a dramatic contest between SSS1 and SSS3 male teams. SSS1 took an early 2–0 lead before SSS3 fought back to level the score, forcing the game into penalties.
SSS1 eventually emerged winners after a 3–2 penalty shootout victory.
In the overall results, SSS1 male team won the senior secondary category, while SSS3 female team clinched the senior female title. At the junior level, JSS2 male and female teams emerged champions in their respective categories.
Awards were also presented to outstanding players, including most valuable players and highest goal scorers.
Participants noted that beyond competition, the tournament reinforced values such as teamwork, resilience, discipline, and unity across different groups.
The event ended with presentations, celebrations, and renewed calls to sustain the annual competition as a platform for youth engagement and community development.
