Ugbade, coach of Ikeja Region, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that he was proud of the excellent tactics displayed by his team, noting, however, that the result turned out otherwise.
“It was a very good game even though we lost. My boys performed exceptionally well, but at the end, the result turned out badly,’’ he said.
Ugbade, who captained the country’s Kodak U-16 World Championship winners in China in 1985, said he was hopeful that his team would do better in their next game.
In his comments, the coach of victorious Ejigbo Region, Gabriel Abel, admitted that their opponents lost many chances and that he was grateful that his own team won.
“Actually the other team played very well. They lost a lot of chances. I am happy that my boys were able to come out fine,” he said.
Abel said that he had expected more than a goal from his boys, but added: “I thank God for the victory at hand’’.
The competition continues. (NAN)
