Ejiofor, Nyong’o win ‘Best Actor’ honours at BET

Kenyan star, Nyong’o ousted the likes of Angela Bassett, Gabrielle Union, Kerry Washington and Oprah Winfrey to pick up her first BET award while British-born Nigerian Ejiofor beat off stiff competition from Forest Whitaker, Idris Elba and Kevin Hart. ‘Twelve Years a Slave’ also won the ‘Best Movie’ award.
Both actors were however, absent at the awards show. Pharrell Williams was a big winner at the awards show, walking away with the awards for ‘Best Male R&B/Pop Artiste’ and ‘Video of the Year.’ Hip-Hop’s number one couple Jay Z and Beyoncé won the ‘Best Collaboration’ award for their performance on Bey’s ‘Drunk in love’ and JheneAiko picked up this year’s ‘Centric Award.’
Nigerian pop star, Davido, picked up the ‘Best African Act’ award ahead of Tiwa Savage, South Africa’s Mafikizolo, Ghana’s Sarkodie, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz and Togo’s Toofan to win the award. There were stunning performances from Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Pharrell Williams, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Hudson and more.
Tiwa Savage also performed a night earlier at the BET Experience concert. The show was held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
