Ekiti court arraigns 2 over 200 bags of cement theft

A magistrates’ court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has arraigned two persons, Omoyele Omobamiji, 56, and Kayode Akinrele, 32, over alleged theft of 200 bags of cement.

Police prosecutor, Inspector A. O. Bamigbade, told the court yesterday that the defendants and others at large committed the crime on December 24, 2021, at about 10.00am at Adehun Street, Adebayo, in Ado-Ekiti.

Inspector Bamigbade said the defendants stole 200 bags of cement valued at N800,000, property of one Jimoh Yinusa.

He said the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 516, 390 of the Criminal Code Cap 16, Vol.1 Law of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2012.

Counsel to the defendants, Barrister Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant them bail; that they would abide by the bail conditions.

The magistrate, Mrs D.M. Kay-Williams, granted each of the defendants bail of N200, 000, with two sureties with verifiable addresses in the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until January 17, 2022, for hearing.
