There was a serious fight between supporters of the People Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressive Congress (APC) in Iyin-Ekiti in the morning.
PDP agent at 007 polling unit in Odole, Faromika Ayodeji said the Caretaker Chairman of the Irepodun/ Ifelodun local government, Major Boluwafemi Awe Tajudeen (rtd) was not allowing electorates who are not loyal to PDP to be accredited.
“He is the one terrorizing us. He is not allowing us to perform our civic right. The man is intimidating us. He is using his political power because he’s the Chairman of the Irepodun/ Ifelodun local government.
“If you are from other political parties, he will be slapping you and intimidating you. That’s what he has been doing since morning,” he lamented.
Ayodeji also complained that being an agent, he doesn’t know the total number of accredited voters, adding that the Presiding Officer wouldn’t divulge the information.
However, Major Tajudeen (rtd) denied the accusation, insisting that he was only ensuring orderliness in the polling units during the election.
In the same vein, APC party agent, Awe Nurudeen Olawale insisted that his party members were not responsible for the crisis.
As at the time our reporter left the area, security operatives from the Department of State Security (DSS) have arrived to calm the situation.
One of them who wouldn’t want his name mentioned, said that was the third time they have been called to resolve crisis in the town today.
