The Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has rendered financial assistance to a retired army officer, 82-year-old Pa Femi Ajayi, whose three-flat building in Ado-Ekiti was gutted by fire on the first day of the year.

Gov Fayemi, who was represented by the Secretary to the State

Government, Mr Abiodun Oyebanji, yesterday announced the assistance during an on-the-spot assessment of the disaster.

The actual sum of money given to Pa Ajayi was not disclosed.

Fayemi said his administration was making the immediate donation to stabilise the traumatized family pending the intervention of the state government.

He added he would investigate the fire incident to ascertain its cause, and stressed that the present administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of the people in the state.

Pa Ajayi expressed appreciation to the government for responding to his plea for assistance, describing him as “the people’s governor running an administration with a difference.”

The Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Values Orientation, Mr Olumuyiwa Olumilua, and the General Manager, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr Olajide Borode, were part of the delegation.
