The Special Assistant to the state governor on environment, Mr Bisi Kolawole, made this known last week in Ado-Ekiti while addressing newsmen.
Kolawole explained that provision of the toilets would allow residents and visitors to have easy access to facilities and reduce open defecation by the people.
He said that the construction of toilets in Ado-Ekiti was the first phase, adding that some toilets would be built in Ikere and other major towns during the second phase.
The governor’s aide expressed concern over the low participation of the people at the January edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
He, however, warned that the government would not accept similar attitude in the future.
Kolawole said that ministry officials have held many meetings with stakeholders on the need to keep their environment clean.
The governor’s aide noted that this was necessary to avert outbreak of communicable diseases among the populace.
In his speech, the state’s Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation, Mr Tunde Balogun, urged the general public to adhere to the government’s policy of ‘One house, One toilet’ to curb open defecation. (NAN)
