All sensitive materials for the 2014 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State have been received and effectively secured by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the poll.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Halilu Pai revealed this at a Press Conference held at the state INEC office on Friday evening.
“We have received all the sensitive materials on Wednesday, from the central bank of Nigeria. Peace and security agents have escorted the materials to this office, that is INEC Ekiti State office, and yesterday being Thursday, we have distributed these very sensitive materials to the sixteen local government areas.
He said the distribution was done in the presence of security agents.
“As I speak, these materials have been distributed to the local government areas yesterday and have been distributed to the 101 registration centers.
Alhaji Pai said the registration centers spread across the length and breadth of Ekiti state, were an improvement by INEC to ensure that elections starts at the specified time.
“These centers are close to the polling units, thereby making it faster and easier for election materials and personnel to be deployed and for election to commence by 8:00 am in all the polling units.”
He said the centers also have facilities where adhoc staff can spend the night at minimal available comfort.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, assured that the adhoc staff have been effectively trained and will carry out their responsibilities in the best way tomorrow.
