Ekiti prophet remanded for ‘killing’ teenager

A magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of Prophet Adedayo Oluwaseyidara (30) in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado-Ekiti.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that Prophet Oluwaseyidara, on February 12, 2022, in Iyin Ekiti, murdered a 17-year-old, Emmanuel Adeyemo.

According to the prosecutor, in her statement to the police, the mother of the deceased, Adeyemo Bisola, said the deceased was bed-wetting and was taken to the prophet for prayers.

Sgt Adeniyi said, “The prophet told them he was possessed, and that they should bring different types of fruits for appeasement to the gods due to a vision and revelation about Emmanuel.

“The prophet prepared the sacrifice and concoction, he gave it to Emmanuel to drink. Thereafter, Emmanuel started complaining of stomach ache and later died.”

The prosecutor then asked the magistrate to remand the suspect and allow the police complete investigation and forward the duplicate case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The Magistrate, Franca Olaiya, ordered that the prophet be remanded in the custody of the correctional service and adjourned the case to March 10.
