Pandemonium broke out  at the Ekiti State University community on Wednesday as students of the institution went on the rampage to protest what they called persistent motorcycle accident involving some of them.

It was gathered that the crisis started on Tuesday evening when students and commercial motorcyclists  engaged in hot argument leading to exchange of blows.

It was gathered that the students had insisted that the commercial motorcyclists must treat a student earlier hit by one of them during an accident which the riders agreed to.

However, the students caused tension on Wednesday when they took to the streets but they were quickly checked by police officers drawn from Iworoko Division.

They chanted solidarity songs and barricaded the major highways for many hours.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof.  Sam Oye Bandele, it was gathered, tried to pacify the students but they refused until  policemen dispersed the students with tear gas and gun shot.

Some of the students alleged that the police  arrested some of them which the police denied. 

The PPRO, Mr. Adeyemi Alberto, confirmed the crisis but said normalcy had since been returned to the school.

Recalling what led to the crisis,  Alberto said a student of the school was hit by a commercial motorcyclist on Tuesday evening and the students demanded that the injured student and those that had been injured in the past by commercial motorcycle should be treated which he said the motorcyclists agreed.

He added, "But along the line the students went to attack the ofada men which later led to the crisis. But our men have restored normalcy to the place and it is calm now."

He also denied claim that some students were arrested.
