Civil servants in Ekiti state have expressed pessimism over possibility of the outgoing Governor Ayodele Fayose-led government paying the backlog of salary and entitlements owed them before he leaves office in October.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has therefore declared that it would no longer tolerate payment of one salary per month from the government to the workers.

At a Congress held on Saturday in Ado Ekiti which communique was made known to journalists on Sunday, the workers stated that the governor should be prepared henceforth to pay them two month salaries and pension per month till he quits office in October.

A statement signed by the union chairman, Com. Ade Adesanmi, lamented that workers are beginning to be hopeless about the possibility of Fayose, whose tenure is gradually winding up to be able to defray backlog of salaries and pension as well as gratuities owed the state  workers.

 The statement said it was becoming clearer by the day that the government was not committed to the payment as earlier promised with the way things are going.

The union demanded that the government should look for alternative way to offset outstanding salaries, pension and gratuities before situation goes out of hands by paying at least two salaries per month commencing from July.
