Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, has commissioned a modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Experience Centre funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), in a move aimed at strengthening digital education, innovation and research within the institution.
The facility was inaugurated during a ceremony attended by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, alongside the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima; Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji; the First Lady of Ekiti State, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji; Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele; the Executive Secretary of TETFund; university officials and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, EKSU Chancellor, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, described the ICT Experience Centre as a significant milestone in the university’s development, noting that it would enhance digital literacy and provide students with access to modern technological tools.
According to him, the centre represents the fulfillment of a long-standing aspiration to establish a world-class digital learning facility capable of preparing students for opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven world.
He said the facility would serve as a platform for innovation, practical learning and skills development, enabling students to acquire competencies required in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, data analytics and digital technology.
Olowolafe commended the Federal Government for its continued investment in education and infrastructure development, noting that interventions through TETFund have contributed significantly to the growth of tertiary institutions across the country.
He also acknowledged the support of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing her visit as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to advancing education and youth development.
The Chancellor highlighted several federal initiatives in the education sector, including increased budgetary allocations, student support programmes and investments in educational infrastructure aimed at improving access to quality learning.
He urged students to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the new facility and use it to enhance their academic and professional development.
“This facility has been established to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital environment. It is important that they make effective use of it for learning, innovation and personal growth,” he said.
Olowolafe further commended the Vice-Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Joseph Ayodele, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the Ekiti State First Lady and the leadership of TETFund for their contributions to the university’s development.
He expressed optimism that the ICT Experience Centre would strengthen teaching, learning, research and technological advancement within the institution.
The newly commissioned facility is expected to improve access to digital resources, support technology-based learning and enhance the university’s capacity for innovation and research.
The event concluded with goodwill messages from guests and prayers for the continued growth of the university and the development of the country.
