Former Vice President Alex Ekwueme is on admission at the Intensive Care Unit of Memfys International hospital, Enugu, family sources told Daily Trust, adding that plans were on top gear to fly him overseas for further treatment.
One of the sources said yesterday that the condition of the elder statesman has not improved since last Saturday when he slumped.
At the time of filing in this report, the cause of his present health situation was unknown.
However, the Minister of Health Prof Isaac Adewole was said to have sent a delegation to ascertain his health situation with the aim of flying him abroad.
Ekwueme celebrated his 85th birthday last month.
Officials of the Memfys Hospital for Neurosurgery, Enugu declined comments.
Meanwhile, Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has called for prayers from the citizens of the state for the Second Republic Vice-President.
Obiano, in his face book page, said “Anambra, please join me to pray for Nna anyi, His Excellency, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme. Dr Ekwueme is the pride of Ndigbo and our hope for a better Nigeria.”
