El Kanemi has won the 2026 President’s Federation Cup trophy following a 1-0 win over Ikorodu City at the Stephen Keshi stadium, Asaba.

Mukhtar Ismail scored the only goal of the match in the first half and EL Kanemi’s defence stood its ground to deny the Lagos-based club on its first ever appearance in the competition’s final.

El Kanemi, however, won their fourth title and will be Nigeria’s second representative in next season’s CAF Confederations Cup.

It is also their second Federation Cup title in three seasons. They are the first club to earn such feat since Akwa United between 2017 and 2019.

The self-styled Borno Army defeated the Oga Boys to win the trophy despite suffering relegation into the Nigerian National League (NNL), becoming the first side since defunct Dolphins (now Rivers United) played in the CAF Cup Winners Cup in 2001 despite relegation.

El Kanemi dominated the first half and was awarded a penalty for a foul in the box, and Ismail slotted home the spotkick on 19 minutes for a 1-0 lead at halftime. Suleiman Dogo’s side produced a resolute second half to deny Ikorodu City a first-ever major trophy and botched its continental ambition.

Earlier, Nasarawa Amazons defeated Heartland Queens 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 scoreline to win the 2026 women’s President Federation Cup.

The Nasarawa side was a losing finalist last year, but returned to claim their third title in the competition’s history.
