Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 29 matches played yesterday produced one away victory as Rivers United secured a crucial 2-1 victory against El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri while newcomers, Ikorodu City rallied back to draw 2-2 with Enyimba in Lagos.

Title contenders Rivers United took the lead through Tofeek Otaniyi in the 47th minute, Samson Obi doubled the lead in the 61st minute before Risilanu Ismail reduced the deficit for El-Kanemi Warriors in the fifth minute of second half added time.

At the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Ikorodu United shared the spoils with the ‘peoples elephants’ after Cole Ayomide scored the equaliser in the eighth minute of second half added time.

If not for the dramatic equaliser, Joseph Atule would have been the hero for Enyimba once again as his goal in the 73rd minute after Mujeeb Odufeso had cancelled Tosin Oyedokun’s goal appeared to be the winning goal.

To maintain their top position, Remo Stars laboured to a 2-0 victory over Heartland FC in Ikenne, relegation troubled Lobi Stars fell 0-1 to Bayelsa United in Yenagoa while Nasarawa United led by Coach Salisu Yusuf forced Kano Pillars to a 1-1 draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Elsewhere, Akwa United who are neck-deep in relegation waters stunned 3SC 2-0 in Uya with Endurance Ebedibiri and Uche Sabastine scoring a goal each in the second half.

Meanwhile, Sunday Megwo’s strike in the 43rd minute was all that Abia Warriors needed to beat Bendel Insurance in Umuahia.

The last match of week 29 fixtures will be decided today in Jos between Plateau United and Sunshine Stars of Akure.
