El-Rufa’i wins in Kaduna

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i has won the Saturday’s governorship elections in Kaduna state.
El-Rufa’i defeated incumbent Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of the PDP. He scored 1,117,635 votes while Yero polled 485,833.
The state returning officer Professor Ja’afar Makau Kaura made the announcement shortly after the collation of results from all the 23 local government areas in the state.
He said there were 3,357,469 registered voters in the state while 1,710,935 voters were accredited for the elections. A total of 1,632,993 valid votes were recorded while 27, 116 votes were rejected. The number of total votes cast was 1,660,109.
Voting was cancelled in 112 polling units with the voter population of 65,386.
One election officer had disappeared with election materials before the commencement of voting on Saturday and was not accounted at the time of announcement of results on Sunday.
Meanwhile governor Yero had accepted the results and congratulated El-Rufa’i in telephone conversation.
