The one pathetic situation and my objection here was how these PHCN officials asked residents to contribute money to fix or repair transformers of areas where such transformer developed fault or areas that require new transformers to be replaced. They take advantage of the fact that most community residents are unaware of the basic rights guiding the Electricity Act and consumer education and misusing them to extort large amounts of money from consumers, amounting to ‘’unjust enrichment’’.
 It is the responsibility of electricity companies to provide and install transformers or repair faulty ones in areas affected without asking residents to contribute any amount of money. They make it look as an act of kindness to such communities affected by so doing, not minding the fact that those consumers still have bills to settle at the end of the month even though the services are still very pitiable.
This is exactly what is happening today. Government cannot be silent to this type of exploitation. Mall Nasiru El-Rufai should appoint energy experts’ committee in the state to monitor the implementation of electricity regulations and to check the misuse of these regulations by the body responsible. This nonchalant attitude of electricity company charges or the officials going about extracting all kinds of charges from innocent
Kaduna electricity consumers need to be stopped and dealt with.
