Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has regretted being late in paying the salaries of teachers and other civil servants by offering unconditional apologies to them.
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mohammed Sani Abdullahi, at a press briefing on the one year anniversary of the government, said the delay in payment of salaries of teachers and other civil servants by more than three months was out of character.
He said the delay was as a result of the verification of public employees in the state.
He said, “We apologise to those civil servants innocently affected by the non- payment of their salaries which was as a result of fishing out ghost workers in the state.”
The governor, who agreed that mistakes were made in the employee verification process, said efforts are being made to correct such mistakes.
“If we don’t stop the rise of ghost workers in the state, in the next one year, we may not be talking about Kaduna State, yes we make mistakes because we are human, we are equally faced with the activities of saboteurs,” he stressed.
He said arrangement was being made to pay those whose salaries were genuinely omitted.
