Leader of the Obidient Movement in the South East, Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, has expressed support for former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, following his call on the people of the South East to participate actively in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
El-Rufai had recently visited Owerri, Imo State, where he addressed participants at the 2025 Odenigbo Lecture held at Maria Assumpta Catholic Church.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Dr. Ezeh said El-Rufai’s message underscored the importance of voter participation as a foundation for strengthening democracy.
He stressed that while the Nigerian constitution guarantees freedom of expression and choice, the South East must continue to push for inclusivity, equity, and fairness in national politics.
“The only way Nigerians will take the coalition seriously is by zoning the presidential slot to the South,” Ezeh said, adding that El-Rufai’s call for wider participation in elections aligns with the Obidient Movement’s belief that “a new Nigeria is possible.”
Ezeh further explained that active voter registration and participation are essential to ensuring credible elections and upholding the rule of law.
“We have been mobilising our members to register and vote, because apathy and lethargy weaken democracy. Courage, sensitisation, and continuous consultation are needed to ensure that Nigerians believe in their power to shape the future,” he said.
He noted that the Obidient Movement remains committed to working with partners across political platforms to ensure ethical, competent, and purposeful leadership in the country.
