Elba in Nigeria for ‘Beasts of No Nation’ premiere

Idris Elba, lead character of the movie, ‘Beasts of no nation,’ is visiting Nigeria today, for the premiere of the movie, which was released in Nigerian cinemas yesterday.
The Hollywood star did an exemplary job playing the role, ‘Commandant,’ in the Cary Fukunaga directed movie which has amassed positive critical reviews around the world.
The movie, which has also been promoted in other countries, is based on the highly acclaimed 2005 novel of the same title by the Nigerian-American author, Uzodinma Iweala.
It gained worldwide recognition after TV mogul Oprah Winfrey described it as one of her favourites. 
The movie, which is named after a Fela’s album, is a 2015 African war drama film co-produced by Iweala, about a young boy who survives as his country goes through a horrific war.
It was shot in Ghana and also featured co-stars Ama K., Abraham Attah and Opeyemi Fagbohungbe among others.
Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer in Netflix Inc., the company which owns and markets ‘Beasts of no Nation,’ in a release, described the movie as a disruptive success, as it has already been seen by 300 million viewers around the world.
Elba, as an exceptional Hollywood actor, who has carved a niche for himself to have portrayed the African icon, Mandela, in the movie of the same title, gave an outstanding performance as a charismatic and sinister warlord who finds that military power, however intoxicating, is subject to the fickle imperatives of politics.
He has strongly committed himself to the promotion of this scintillating portrayal of African history, hence his coming to Nigeria to promote the movie.
