Elders of Lafia Municipal Progressive Association (LMPA) in Nasarawa State are urging Governor Abdullahi Sule to find a lasting solution to the water problem in the state.

Chairman of the association Dr. Mustapha Bello, who spoke with our reporter Lafia on Sunday, said “It is quiet reassuring that this administration is aware that people are facing hardship in search of potable water.”

He said the association was concerned with the absence of potable water in the state capital and its environs more than 20 years after its creation.

He said they  wrote to the governor on July 11, 2019 highlighting the pains and difficulty suffered by the people of Lafia due to lack of potable water and its increasing population.

According to him, the parts mostly affected are, Ciroma, Gayam, Zanwa and Makama wards respectively.

Dr Mustapha Bello said there were youths in the area who have never seen pipe-borne water flow from public water source, and that the only source of water in Lafia were wells and streams.

The elder also said the people of the municipal area have been suffering from different types of illnesses and reproductive health issues among others as a result of lack of clean water.

He called on the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and relevant stakeholders to make provision of water to Lafia municipal comprising of the Lafia emirate in next year’s budget.
