Akume was reacting to election hitches in some local government areas of the state which resulted in trading of blames between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party sued for peace.
He spoke yesterday to journalists in Makurdi, Benue State shortly after a brief meeting with the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC0 which was attended by Governor Gabriel Suswam, Senator Barnabas Gemade among others.
“We have resolved as brothers to work as a team to ensure peace. Election can’t divide us. All we are saying is that whoever wins should win round and square,” he said.
Akume added that the military should not be used to subvert the electoral process even though the process had not yet been subverted.
The lawmaker therefore appealed for calm among parties’ supporters in the Tiv zone, noting that the much needed peace was why they held meeting with the REC.
