The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has decried the continued loss of electricity generated on transmission lines.

Speaking during the one year anniversary of the establishment of NISO, its Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, said one of the greatest problems it encountered at the inception is the high recorded transmission loss factor.

“At some point, it was close to 10 percent, costing about N5bn to N8bn monthly. So that’s the target we have looked into. We are working earnestly and we have reduced it to our 7.5 percent at the moment. And we are working to also reduce it further to five or six percent so that we will meet the target of the latest. These interventions are contributing to improve system discipline and reliability together.”
