Electricity workers under the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEC) at the weekend in Lagos formally declared trade dispute against the managing director of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Mr. Usman Gur Mohammed, over what the union described as illegal actions against its members.
Speaking in Lagos, the president of the union, Mr Chris Okonkwo, since his assumption of office, Mohammed had suspended remittances of members’ union dues deducted from their accounts to the national body, sponsoring dissent in the union, sponsoring illegal seminars using the union’s money, with illegal letters signed by the suspended TCN branch secretary as well as failure to negotiate condition of service for the senior electricity workers.
“For a long time, we saw that the same MD/CEO was sponsoring dissent in our union for which we have severally pointed out his unprofessional and illegal actions.
“He took his sponsorship of these renegade officers to another level, by usurping the functions of a properly constituted court and indeed the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment by such declaration of suspension of dues”, Okonkwo stated.
