Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has warned warring farmers and herders in Arewa Local Government Area of the State to sheath their swords and live peacefully, warning that anyone involved in clashes would be arrested and prosecuted.
The governor issued the warning during a visit to displaced residents taking refuge at the Arewa Local Government Secretariat in Kangiwa.
“I’m here to condole with the families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate clash, but I must warn people to stop taking the law into their hands,” he said.
“We have launched investigations to unravel the cause of the incident. Already, arrests have been made, and we believe in the judiciary to punish the perpetrators and deter others.”

Governor Idris also announced a donation of N150m to the affected families.
He emphasised that there was no reason for conflict among Fulani, Zabarmawa and Arewa communities as they had coexisted peacefully for over a century.
“I am making a donation of N150 million to all the affected victims – Fulani, Zabarmawa and Arewas – to enable them return home.”
While urging all parties to embrace peace, the governor assured that the state government would also seek federal support for the victims.
He commended all security agencies for their efforts in restoring peace in the troubled area.
