The Emir of Keffi in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Shehu Chindo Yamusa, has advocated for constitutional recognition for traditional rulers in the country to enable them discharge their responsibilities effectively.

He made the call when he played host to participants of the Senior Course 42 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, in his palace in Keffi.

Alhaji Chindo Yamusa said, “Traditional institutions in the country play a critical role in complementing the efforts of security agencies towards peace building.”

According to him, despite that effort, they have not been given adequate recognition in the constitution, stressing the need to review Cap 74 law of the National Security Act.

The emir also advocated allocation of security vote for traditional rulers which, he said, will help in addressing criminal activities at the local level.

Earlier, leader of the delegation, Air Commodore Hassan Idris Alhaji, told the royal father that they were in his palace to seek for his blessing and appreciate the contribution of traditional institutions in enhancing peaceful coexistence among their communities.
