The Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammed Sani has called on his subjects to be vigilant of happening around their communities and report any suspicious movement to security agencies.

The emir, who made the call while addressing the people of his domain on Saturday during the Sallah Gani festival, said the call was necessary considering the spate of kidnapping across the country.

“The call shall also serve as directive to all district heads under Gumel emirate on the need to improve on surveillance with a view of reporting any suspicious movement around them to the emirate or security agencies,” he said,

The emir also warned against bush burning and emphasized on the need to be wary on handling fire while cooking saying, the warning was crucial looking at the windy nature of harmattan whether in order to avoid possible fire outbreaks.

“Security is one of the major challenges facing not only the country but the world in general. There is need for all to come on board by becoming security conscious with a view to reporting any distrustful movement. When you see any person or group that you are not comfortable with, report same to us for prompt action.”

Meanwhile, Secretary of the Gumel Emirate Council, Mohammed Mayaki, said the Sallah Gani festival started in 1835 when the present Gumel was founded by its first Emir, Mohammadu Dankanoma.

He said the festival was only celebrated in four emirates across the northern part of the country which include Gumel and Hadejia in Jigawa state, Borgu in Niger state and Daura in Katsina state.
