The Emir of Hadejia, Dr Adamu Abubakar Maje, has urged farmers who benefitted from either government or private sector’s intervention in agricultural development in Jigawa State to be prompt in repaying the loans given to them.

The emir made the call during the flag-off ceremony of 900 hectares of private sector-led out-grower rice paddy cultivation, a support scheme to farmers for the 2021 dry season held at Kadume community in Malam Madori Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

He said government and the private sector had committed hugely in agriculture, and to ensure sustainability, farmers had to pay back what they collected as at when due.

Earlier in his address, the managing director, M&A Greenery Limited, Professor Muhammad Auwal Hussaini, said the intervention scheme was non-interest driven, introduced by his firm. He added that farmers stand to get six bags of 15-15-15 NPK fertiliser, three bags of urea, as well as certified paddy seeds, among other agricultural inputs, for better and quality yield.

Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Malam Hashim Turaki described the gesture as worth complimenting, adding that it was not the first time the private sector engaged rice farmers in the area, and the relationship had yielded positive results for all to see and adopt.
