The Emir of Lafia, retired Justice Sidi Bage, has urged communities across the state to embrace peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political backgrounds for development to thrive.

He made the call during a tour of Barkin Abdullahi chiefdom in Lafia North Development Area of the state, stressing that peace was a necessary requirement for the development of any society.

The emir, who is the Chairman of Nasarawa State Council of Traditional Rulers, said the visit was part of his efforts to promote peaceful co-existence among people and communities in the state.

“This visit will afford me the opportunity to know how my people are doing; to know their immediate problems so that solutions can be provided or I will pass their message to the government for necessary action.

“As custodians of culture and peace, it is our role to advise our subjects and other Nigerians on the need to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of our ethnic, religious or political affiliations.

“This is because peace is priceless, non-negotiable and a necessary requirement for the development of any society.

“No society can achieve meaningful progress without peace. So, we must embrace peace at all times for development to thrive in our state,’’ he said.

He also urged the people of the state to give their maximum support to leaders at all levels to enable them to succeed in the task ahead of them.

The emir urged the people to be law-abiding, respect constituted authorities and be their brothers’ keepers.

Responding, Mr Sunday Namo, the Aren Koron Kuje, also thanked the emir for the visit and called for the sustenance of such interface, noting that it would promote mutual understanding among the people of the state.

The Aren Koron Kuje assured on their loyalty and support to the emir at all times to enable him to succeed.
