The Emir of Katsina, Dr Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, will on Saturday, February 1, turban Arc. Mansur Amadu Kurfi as the new Maradin Katsina and District Head of Kurfi.

Arc. Kurfi’s appointment follows the passing of his late father, Alhaji Amadu Kurfi, who held the prestigious position for decades.

An alumnus of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Arc. Kurfi obtained a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Architecture between 1971 and 1977.

His academic journey continued abroad, earning a Postgraduate Diploma in Urban Planning from A-A Architecture School, London, in 1982; a Master of Science in Project Management from the University of Reading, UK (1989-1991); and a Certificate in Managing Professional Firms from Harvard Business School, USA.

Arc. Kurfi boasts an impressive professional career spanning local and international engagements.

He has served in key roles, including director at Multi-Systems Limited (1984 to date), architect at Kenzo Tange’s Office in Tokyo, Japan (1981), team member at Benna Associates/Kenzo Tange and Urtec, Japan (1981-1984), architect with Rational Architects, Ibadan (1977-1980) and pioneer staff member of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) (1978-1979).

Notably, he was instrumental in the design of Abuja’s Central Area while working with Kenzo Tange’s team.

Arc. Kurfi also played a pioneering role in northern Nigeria’s architectural community, becoming the first northerner to serve as President of the Association of Consulting Architects Nigeria (ACAN) and a nine-year council member of the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA).

In a 2018 interview with the Daily Trust, Arc. Kurfi reflected on his contributions to Nigeria’s urban development:

“I was one of the pioneer staff recruited by the FCDA when it was set up in 1978. I worked on the design of Abuja’s Central Area under Kenzo Tange’s leadership, contributing both in Nigeria and Japan.

“Afterwards, I pursued further studies in urban planning and later co-founded Multi-Systems Consultants with my colleagues.”
