He made the call when he granted audience to the Director General of the National Museum and Monuments, Alhaji Usman Abdullah, in his palace.

The emir, who is also the Chairman of the Yobe State Council of Chiefs, said improving and upgrading the prison into a museum would preserve the history, culture and artefacts of the people and also attract tourism to the area.

At the palace of the Emir of Potiskum, Alhaji Umaru Bubaram, a similar request was made to the director general to support traditional institutions who are the custodians of history.

The director general on his part, said the federal government was planning to support emirs and chiefs across the country to have palace museums.

Alhaji Abdullah who visited mini museums in the two palaces, said the federal government has come up with new plans on how to conserve culture and history, adding that establishing palace museums will also open more doors for research and documentations.
