Emirship litigation over, says Kano Assembly Majority Leader

The Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Lawan Hussain, has said that Kano emirship tussle litigation is over.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had earlier on Tuesday signed into law the bill establishing three second class emirates in the state.

The bill was signed a few hours after the state House of Assembly passed the Emirates Council Establishment Bill 2024.

Speaking on Channels TV’s politics Today, Hussain said that the state government created second class emirs in Rano, Karaye and Gaya to restor the glory of state’s emirate system.

He said, “Kano State government under Ganduje promulgated a law in 2019, which divided the emirate into sub-divisions called Gaya, Rano, Karaye and Bichi emirates. But what I want to assure you is that the decision by the Kano State Government to now have new second class emirs is to restore the glory of our heritage with Kano having one single first emir.

“These second-class emirs being created are answerable to the Emir of Kano and he is the chairman of the emirates. This is the wisdom behind the creation.

“We want Kano to be as it was before the coming of Ganduje. This was the history of Kano since before the Danfodio jihad. We are not doing this because of the pressure or litigation issue. The litigation issue is over. Kano State High Court yesterday (Monday) made it categorically clear that the law repealed by the Kano State Government which restored Kano to one emirate system is acceptable. And the deposed emirs should stop parading themselves as emirs and return any property belonging to the Kano State Government. “
