The First Lady  of Enugu State, Mrs Monica Ugwuanyim, has sought collaboration with  the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in the areas of training and employment creation for the youths and women of Enugu State.

Mrs Ugwuanyim made this call when she visited the Director General of the NDE, Dr Mohammed Nasir Ladan Argungu in  Abuja. She said the need for Employment Training and Empowerment for the  people of Enugu State especially the youth and women has become urgent considering the socio – economic situation of an average woman and youth in the state.

She indicated  interest in Agricultural Skills Training, saying  her plan was to reach out to the rural dwellers that are willing to embrace small scale businesses in order to stem the tide of rural urban migration. The initiative, according to her, will also curtail criminal activities in the state as well as give meaning and dignity to the lives of rural dwellers.

In his response, the   Director General assured  that the  NDE would  support all the employment initiatives of the Enugu State First Lady.

He therefore  directed the NDE office in Enugu State to work out the modalities for effective collaboration between the NDE and the government of Enugu State for the benefit of the youth and women in the state adding that youth and women employment is the bottom line in a credible fight against poverty nationwide.

He further stated that Nigerians generally have the urgent need to embrace Skills Acquisition and self-employment to become self-reliant and effect a paradigm shift in the socio – political situation of the country.
