Sokoto  state governor Aminu Tambuwal says farmers are encroaching on forest reserves, causing worries of possible increase in clashes between farmers and herders.

 He expressed the state government’s concern over  this at the  Flagg off of  the annual tree planting campaign of the state  held at  in Bodinga local government area.

Tambuwal called on  government officials, community leaders and other individuals to desist from encroaching into reserves.

Speaking on the campaign, he disclosed that the state government had allocated lands for commercial cultivation of some important economic trees such as Gum Arabic, Moringa, Dates and Shea tree.

"In allocating lands for the cultivation, government will also encourage individuals to take the lead and ensure that the benefit gets to as many people as possible, "he stated.

Tambuwal  explained:"We’re opening up a new corridor in fighting poverty and unemployment. We will support our farmers with improved seeds and technical expertise to ensure the state derives maximum benefit from the venture."
