The Eselu of Iseluland in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Ebenezer Akintunde Akinyemi has appealed to Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu to forgive errant youths who invaded his palace and carted away the staff of office during the recent #EndSARS protest.
Eselu condemned attacks on the palace and described it as “pathetic, heinous and untraditional.”
The first-class monarch spoke while addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on the protest and subsequent looting spree nationwide.
He regretted that monarchs are attacked whenever youths want to vent their anger against unfriendly policies of the government.
Eselu said “It is pathetic to see how the palace of our revered Kabiyesi in Lagos was vandalised. I want to use this opportunity to plead with Kabiyesi, HRM Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Oba of Lagos to kindly forgive the youths who perpetrated the heinous and untraditional crime. Due to the closeness of the youths to us (traditional rulers), they see us as the first targets whenever they think of the unfriendly policies of governments towards them.
“It very sad also to see the loss of lives and wanton destruction of public and private properties during the EndSARS agitation. I want to condole with the families of those who lost their lives during the protests. I pray that the Almighty God will grant the families of the dead the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.”
The monarch equally asked political leaders to urgently address the issues raised during the protest and desist from labelling the youths.
