The Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, has disclosed plans for a comprehensive rehabilitation of some dilapidated police stations in the state.

Dr. Ogunsan specifically stated that of interest are police divisions that were damaged during the EndSARS protests in October 2020.

He explained that the project is aimed at restoring the affected police stations to their former state, insisting that the complete overhaul is crucial in ensuring that the Police can effectively carry out their duties and maintain law and order in the state.

The Executive Secretary who dropped this hint at the weekend while briefing news men on the focus of LSSTF also disclosed that Policemen in the state will soon be seen wearing body cameras while on duty.

The body cameras, according to him, is to promote transparency and accountability within the Lagos State Police Command.

Fielding questions from media men during a press conference held at LSSTF office in Ikeja, Ogunsan explained that the rehabilitation project will involve the repair of damaged infrastructure, replacement of vandalized equipment, and upgrade of facilities to enhance the operational efficiency of the police.

The EndSARS protests, which began as a call to end police brutality, unfortunately, turned violent, resulting in the destruction of several police stations and other public properties across Lagos State.

He said the rehabilitation project is a significant step towards rebuilding and restoring normalcy to the affected areas.

“We have taken stock of all effected Police Stations in Lagos. Some of them are indeed in a sorry state. We have initiated moves to rehabilitate them. The project is expected to be completed in phases” he stated.

Highlighting some of his policy trust, the Executive Secretary of LSSTF, revealed that his administration would be more transparent, and that he intend to consolidate on the achievement of his predecessors.

Dr. Ogunsan further disclosed that Policemen in the state would soon he seen wearing body cameras.

He stated that the introduction of body cameras is aimed at enhancing the safety of both officers and citizens, adding that it is part of a broader effort to modernize law enforcement in Lagos.

Speaking he said: “Lagos is the commercial heartbeat of Nigeria and one of Africa’s fastest-growing megacities. With this growth comes increased complexity in security needs, from urban population pressures to the expansion of digital threats. Our State stands at a point where traditional methods alone are not enough.

“We must embrace innovation, strengthen collaboration, and ensure that our response to emerging security challenges is swift, modern, and people-centered.
LSSTF was established on a visionary principle, that government cannot secure the State alone. The Fund’s success has always depended on the generosity and partnership of corporate organisations, influential institutions, and public-spirited individuals.

“Thanks to these partnerships, the Fund has over the years invested in critical assets such as patrol vehicles, communication equipment, bulletproof vests, marine assets, training for personnel, and other vital tools that have helped law enforcement safeguard our communities.

“As I take on this leadership, my pledge is to strengthen accountability, expand this network of supporters, and ensure the impact of every contribution is felt on the streets where safety matters most.

“Our plans include: A wide-reaching public awareness campaign. User-friendly digital donation platforms. Youth-focused engagement and volunteer initiatives and a strong presence on social and community channels

“When many people join hands, even with small contributions, the outcome is enormous. Whether it is ₦500 or ₦50 million, what matters most is participation. Every Lagos resident should feel that they are part of the solution” he stated.
