Acting president Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris, to restructure the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit.
He gave the order after receiving several complaints. Below are some of the reasons why he ordered that the unit should be overhauled.
– – The persistent complaints and reports on the activities of SARS that border on allegations of human rights
Their new activities would be:
– To conduct their operations in strict adherence to the rule of law and with due regard to International humanitarian law.
– To ensure that their activities will be Intelligence-driven
– The unit will also be restricted to the prevention and detection of armed robbery and kidnapping, and apprehension of offenders linked to the stated offences.
