Hoodlums have looted rice worth N188 million from a rice processing company in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.
Chief Executive Officer of Shamad Concept Nigeria Ltd, Mohammed Shemad disclosed this to newsmen on Monday.

He noted that miscreants had broken into the company’s building at Bakin Kogi in Yola metropolis and carted away 10,615 bags of processed rice..
“Altogether, we had 10,615 bags of rice, 5,210 of them were parboiled rice and the rest white rice,” he stated.
According to him, the company sells white rice at N17,500 and parboiled rice at N18,000 per bag to wholesalers”.
Shamad said he had to employ a group of thugs to protect the remaining goods kept at another warehouse in the metropolis.
“Unruly as they are, I have to engage them to guard the warehouse because they are the only ones who can keep other thugs away,” Shamad said.
The looting spree started on Sunday at a government warehouse where hoodlums carted away foodstuff donated to the state as COVID-19 palliative before breaking into other public and private facilities.
Police said they had arrested 130 persons and recovered various items including tractors and agricultural inputs amid criticism that the security failed to enforce the 24 hour curfew imposed by thee state government.
