Chukwuebuka Enekwechi is eying podium finish in men’s shot-put as he said he is ready to fly Nigeria’s flag in tomorrow’s finals.

To reach the final, his launch hit a mark of 21.16m to place 4th and pick up one of the non-automatic qualifying spots.

The 28-year-old Enekwachi is the 2018 Commonwealth Games Silver medallist and reigning African champion in shot put.

He is also the 2019 African Games champion and the reigning Nigerian National Sports Festival champion.

In 2019, Enekwechi recorded a personal-best shot put throw of 21.80 meters to qualify for the 2020 Toyko Olympic Games.

He also won shot put at the All-African Games in Rabat, Morocco, with a throw of 21.48m, and finished eighth at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, with a shot put mark of 21.19m.

In 2018, he won silver at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, with a shot put throw of 21.14m, and won the African Championship with a throw of 21.08m in Asaba, Nigeria.

In Thursday’s final, he will be competing alongside Mesud Pezer of Bosnia and Hercegovina, Zane Weir of Italy, Kyle Blingnaut of South Africa, Jacko Gill and Tomas Walsh of New Zealand, Darlan Romani of Brazil, Mostafa Hassan of Egypt, Armin Sinancevic of Serbia and Peyton Otterdahl of the United States in the men’s shot put final.
