The Federal Government has called on Nigeria engineers to develop more methods of financing infrastructural projects in the country.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Engr. Babachir David Lawal said this last week at the Iron and Steel Development Stakeholders Workshop organized by the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE).
According to him, government expects engineers to propose ways of funding projects to government.
“We need to have more ingenious ways of financing infrastructural projects in this country because it is no more government as usual.
“We would welcome all suggestions that will direct us in ways that we have not been before.
“We want to improve on road, education, air transport and improve infrastructure that generate wealth,” he said.
Lawal blamed corruption on the nation’s predicament as well as not being able to fund projects, saying as long as “we are not ready to do something on corruption, we would not make progress in terms of industrialization.
“Government on its part can vote money for a project but someone will just use the money to build houses in his village, buy more houses in Asokoro and London and send his children abroad’’.
