NSE President Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi stated this during the society`s quarterly press briefing held in Abuja.
The president maintained that Nigeria must embrace Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation (SETI) as a driving force for industrialization process.
He said the society nominated Mr Adefemi Kila to the conference, adding its position has been documented and presented to the chairman of the conference.
He said, “Every nation that has become great in the last three centuries, without exception, has had to master science, engineering, technology and innovation.
“This is because the advances and application of SETI over the centuries have led to the physical and economic development of such nations.”
He said countries with or without natural resource endowment that applied SETI as a driving force in their industrialization processes excelled within a short time.
“South Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore etc are such examples. The application of SETI provides us with the necessary speed or acceleration in the race for growth of the economy and the generation of national wealth.
“World over, the current dispensation is described as the ‘knowledge economy’. This is the norm. SETI is available all over the world.
“What made the difference is the political will to place SETI in the driver`s seat by the leadership of the above name countries,” he said.
The NSE president said it is in view of this that it calls for the establishment of  a National Council for Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation (NACSETI)  to put SETI in the driving seat of economic transformation.
“The National Council should be chaired by the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Similarly, all states of the federation shall establish state equivalence of NACSETI which shall be chaired by the governor of each state,” he suggested.
