Development experts have canvassed a sustainable approach to entrepreneurial development in Nigeria, identifying funding and mentorship as critical.
They made the call in Abuja, yesterday, during the Arise and Thrive Young Entrepreneurs Accelerator Programme with the theme ‘Empowering the Youth to Build, Innovate and Thrive’, organised by De Nexus Centre in Partnership with the African School of Economics.
Speaking at the event, founder of De Nexus Centre, Princess Gloria Akobundu, stated that entrepreneurs in Nigeria have encountered several challenges which resulted in the collapse of many businesses.
“We understand the challenges and one of the strategies we advocate is to ensure start-up funding for entrepreneurs and the proper mentorship for them because so many have the ideas but no mentors to help them actualise these ideas, while others have good ideas but no funding. So we are advocating a funding method to help sustain entrepreneurs.”

The Vice Chancellor of African School of Economics (ASE), Prof. Adedimeji Mahfouz, noted that opportunities abound for entrepreneurs in Nigeria, but many of them may have to utilise the opportunities when they present themselves.
Similarly, Oladipo Asehinde, co-founder of Buy Powerng noted that most business ideas die because of lack of funding and mentorship, which is why the programme was set up to help change the narrative.
