Entrepreneurship: A scramble for the youth

In our contemporary society, one big bone of contention is corruption. It has eaten the society so deep that it remains a tragic dilemma for the world today. Corruption is any act that negates sincerity, fidelity and justice. Corruption also involves misappropriation of resources (human, material and informational), in a corrupt society, large segment of the population get affected.  Both the rich and the poor, the religious and atheist, the educated and illiterate alongside the old and the young participate in corruption directly or indirectly, consciously or unconsciously, willingly or unwillingly through involving in corrupt acts or through failing to be agent of change (anti-corruption).

Young people notoriously focused more on getting jobs than creating jobs. Many today, are vehemently striving hard to see that they acquire formal education which will guarantee a white collar job, in contrast. The unemployment situation has changed from previous positions marked by prolonged period of unemployment and misemployment to one in which graduates of tertiary institutions have to normally wait for a long time before getting a firs job if at all. These challenges have become setbacks to our contemporary but many are too blind to see and understand the fate awaiting the masses. This has made the community college a powerful hotbed of entrepreneurial economic opportunity.  But many individuals are ignorant to see this opportunity for exploration and fulfilling their dream of attaining greatness.

Entrepreneurial initiative or endeavor involves the concepts of taking opportunities; to some extent it involves exploration, search and innovation. Therefore, it demands determination, hard work, logic and practical application of wisdom. It is the process of creating value by bringing together a unique initiative or package of resources to explore an opportunity; entrepreneurial spirit synopsis is characterized by innovation and risk taking, and is an essential part of a nation’s ability to succeed in an ever changing and increasingly competitive global market place.

First, when entrepreneurship blossom; It generates employment opportunities for the country with the engagement of youth school leavers; it reduce crime to a considerable extent, and reduces immorality in the country, Hence to cause a change, there should be

Entrepreneurial programs and curricula should be designed to meet with the current trends. Its content should be properly designed towards making a graduate in Nigeria skillful in a particular trade or enterprise of interest before he/ she leaves the school, such that the long years of waiting for the elusive supposed dream or plump job will be greatly cut-down through practicing the trade or enterprise learnt about in school. But in a situation where the graduates have no idea of any vocation, their stay at home after their graduation will be a liability to the parent. Hence the need to get to work is not an option, (not just a white collar job but all forms of honest endeavors.)

Unemployment is apparently one of the major causes of social vices such as fraud, kidnapping, armed robbery, destitution, prostitution, terrorism, political thuggery etc. All these can be battled and conquered when those involved in such social vices are given better alternative of things to do which will keep them busy and enlightened on what to do. Corruption is an informal institution that is antithetical to entrepreneurship.
