Media Initiative Against Human trafficking and Women Rights Abuse (MIAHWRA) has announced that entries for the 2017 publication of the second edition of the anti-human trafficking anthology, ‘I Am Not To Be Sold’ can be submitted.
Founder of MIAHWRA, Ms. Tobore Ovuorie, in a release said: “Unlike last year where anti-human trafficking poems were written by secondary school students, the genre for this year’s edition will be on short stories with the same theme, ‘I Am Not To Be Sold.’”
Ovuorie said after her 2015 campaigns in Lagos secondary schools where students won gifts and scholarships for their brilliant performances, the NGO, in conjunction with Parresia Publishers Ltd, published some of the best poems written by students who were between the ages of eight and 14.
According to her, the ‘I Am Not To Be Sold project,’ is geared towards helping children find their voice and take their stand against human trafficking because “the earlier they know about the A-Z of this evil trade dressed in different forms, the better for us all,” she said.
Ovuorie said: “To get published in next year’s edition, any child who is in secondary school should write a short story with the theme: I Am Not To Be Sold. The entries should be within 1000 and 1500 words.”
Besides, becoming published authors, there are cash and consolation prizes for winners with the 20 best entries making the short stories’ collection and their authors becoming MIAHWRA Human trafficking ambassadors. This will also lead the book reading/tour sessions in 2017.
