He said that he did not need the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) or any other person to do the declaration for him as he was confident that he won the election.
Addressing newsmen at Okpara Square, Enugu, the former governor, who once represented Enugu East in the Senate on the platform of the PDP said: “I am the winner. I am saying that I won the election. Do you understand? I do not need anybody to declare me winner, Jega or anything, that’s nonsense. I have declared myself winner.”
He maintained that he and other PDP candidates who contested the National Assembly seats, “won the elections because the polling booth results sheets showed that we won.”
The former governor said:  “91, 000 people did not vote in Enugu East. It is physically impossible for 21,000 people to vote in Isi-Uzo. Do you understand? If 25, 000 people can vote in Enugu North with 128,000 population, why would 21,000 vote in a rural community of 35,000? It is impossible.”     The enraged Nnamani, had earlier led hundreds of protesters to the INEC head office at the Independence Layout of the state capital to register his grievance over the alleged rigging of the polls in Enugu East. But the security forces stationed at INEC head office, Enugu fired teargas  on the protesters, forcing them to scamper for safety. Later, Nnamani and the crowd  marched to the popular Okpara Square  with the crowd chanting “No Chimaroke, no Ugwuanyi” “No Nnamani, no Gburugburu,” The protesters said they were embittered over the manner PDP candidates were rigged out in the election, insisting that they would see to the end of the entire matter.
Nnamani vehemently criticized the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Professor Chukwuemeka Onukaogu and the security agents for allegedly collaborating with the PDP candidates to manipulate the election, saying that “this nonsense has got to stop in Enugu State.”
